St John & St Mark Church, Bury

Working together

We have an active partnership with both the Moorside Library Service, which we host on our premises, and the local community. This partnership has provided some wonderful resources but it is about far more than making our surroundings better.

We collaborate on 2 projects which make a real difference not just in our parish but also for people across the borough:

Porch Project

This is a venture with the Church & Library Service and the well-established local charity the Porch Project which provides food parcels  to people in need.  The project uses libraries as collecting places for donations of food and also involves 4 Community Centres and Libraries (including Moorside) as distribution points.  You can also leave donations at the back of church. Library Service staff provide advice and information, training and employment support to help people get out of poverty.  Volunteers from the church, including members of the uniformed organisations are involved in collecting and organising food. Please see further details on in our Care & Support section.

Lunch Club

In Autumn 2017 this is moving to Seedfield Methodist Church. Thanks to a successful funding application by the local Seedfield Tenants and Residents Association (TRA), the Library Service & members of the church and community provide lunches most weeks in Autumn and Winter for up to 25 older residents of the Moorside Ward. The Lunch Club is a great opportunity for people to meet and make friends as well as providing the chance to get advice and information about current issues. Cost of a 2 course meal and a brew is only £2 per person. Contact the Library or phone 0161 253 6471 for more details.
