St John & St Mark Church, Bury

Older Person Outreach

We take communion out once a month to Burrswood House, a large residential care home in our Parish. This is normally on the last Thursday of the month.

We also go to Hamilton House, a Retirement/Sheltered housing scheme, normally on the first Sunday of the month.

Services at both begin at 2.30pm, they last about 45 minutes and involve seasonal hymns. All are welcome to attend regardless of denomination or singing ability!

Normally there is cake and refreshments after the service at Hamilton House.

We also organise Carols at Christmas in both places.

We can provide transport for those who find it difficult to get to church but feel able to attend our services on Wednesday and Sunday mornings. However, if people find it hard to get out, regardless of age, and would like communion at home then please let the wardens or clergy know.

In addition, we work with Moorside Library and the local Tenants & Residents Association to provide lunch for around 25 older residents of Moorside Ward on most Fridays in the colder months from the end of October through to March. Please contact the Library for more details.
