St John & St Mark Church, Bury

Our Clergy Team

DAVE - the Vicar

I was previously at the Parish of Stoneclough. Prior to that I served for 14 years in the Diocese of Blackburn. My curacy was in Morecambe and then I spent 10 years as a Vicar in Preston.

I was born in Fleetwood and grew up in Blackpool, where my parents and sisters still live. That's the reason for my lifelong support for Blackpool FC. I also enjoy playing cricket as well as listening to music and reading. In addition, I'm secretary for the Lahore Links Group.

Call me Dave! Vicar is my title, and it is an honour to be called to serve God in this way. But Dave will do fine and is preferable as we seek not only to be servants of the Saviour but friends also.

We feel privileged to be with you in the Benefice and are excited about sharing our Christian pilgrimage together. Dave

PAUL - Assistant Priest (currently on loan to St Stephen's)

After serving the Parish as Reader for 20 years I was ordained as a local minister in 2005.

I am a local lad having been born in Radcliffe and ironically lived my first 7 years in Stoneclough before moving to Bury. I am married to Diane, have a teenage daughter and a deaf Jack Russell called Dodger. I have recently retired from a career as a Science teacher in secondary, further education and sixth form.

Apart from serving God my passion is walking and if I'm not in the Lake District or walking a long distance footpath you will see me out and about in the local area with the dog. Paul

DARREN - Reader

Now that Gill is here, I am no longer the newest member to our team!

I was licensed as a Reader for the Diocese at a very special service at William Temple Church in Wythenshaw and have many years of youth work experience.

I run my own business in Manchester, am married to Amanda and we have three children.

I've got a BA in Theology, am a keen guitarist and I also keep chickens! Darren

GILL - Assistant Curate

This is a really exciting time for me as the newest to the team, having been ordained deacon in June 2015.  I finished my post as a Maths teacher in Manchester in July 2015 and have now taken up a completely different role working for God in the United Benefice of Walmersley Road.  I’m not as new to the scene as you might think, having lived and worshipped in Ramsbottom for just over 25 years!  I originally come from Stoke and can still be found checking the makers’ marks on crockery!

Out of hours, I love spending time with my grown-up children and my grandchildren.  I enjoy walking, socialising, live music and theatre - and living out the gospel with all in the Benefice.  Gill

We are also very ably assisted by two 'retired' clergy, Canon Ralph Mallinson and Reverend Keith Trivasse.
